“Basically, if the game is to transform a gold ingot into a sheet of gold leaf as light as a mosquito, then they’re the best in the world at that game.” Alessandro Baricco, “La Repubblica”, 2003
For fifteen generations, Manetti has been the highest expression of the goldbeating trade.
The story of what developed into a top company at an international level in the production of gold and silver leaf first began in Florence, in a small family workshop, which in addition to goldbeating, provided wood carving, decoration and gold smithery services.
During the Renaissance and in virtue of a tightly knit relationship with the Medici, grounded in trust and collaboration, the history of the Manetti family became indissolubly linked with the trade it had embraced.
From 1602 when Matteo Manetti curated the restoration of the golden globe on Filippo Brunelleschi’s dome to date the same family has accompanied and sometimes even anticipated all the fundamental steps of the production evolution linked to the transformation of ingots into leaf.
